About 

Sandy Kipp Iles was a freelance flutist and music educator. She received a Bachelor of Music, cum laude and Master of Music with Distinction from California State University, Northridge. She began teaching private lessons in 1979 and was on the Music Faculty of California State University, Northridge since 1997. Sandy also taught at Pasadena City College, ​Moorpark College, Idyllwild Summer Music Festival, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, ​Glendale Community College, Pepperdine University, and the Pasadena Conservatory of Music. She was a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Society.​

In addition to teaching Flute Performance at the university level, Sandy taught Music Appreciation, Entrepreneurship, Pedagogy, Theory, History, Chamber Music, and Wind Masterclass, and was an active member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California for 15 years. She was the Associate Music Contractor for Peter Rotter Music Services, working in the motion picture and television recording industry. Sandy was the founder and director of the Sterling Flute Choir and the former conductor of the Discovery Players Flute Ensemble.

Sandy performed throughout Asia, North and Central America and Europe. In Southern California she performed with such orchestras as those listed below. Sandy performed with Sterling and Strings Chamber Music, the Sterling Flute Duo and was a member of the Nuance Ensemble, Artists-in-Residence at Moorpark College.

Sandy studied with Geraldine Rotella, Anne Zentner, and Jim Walker. She performed in intensive masterclasses with William Bennett, Geoffrey Gilbert, Jean-Pierre Rampal, and Pierre Boulez​, among other master teachers. 

Sandy composed flute method and etude books, and arranged music for flute ensembles. She created the California Music Merit Program (CMMP) for dedicated flute students committed to achievement. She established the annual CSUN Flute Fest and presented seminars on Professional Development. Sandy enjoyed a tremendously varied freelance career, loves cats, and is married to Los Angeles trombonist, Alex Iles.
